The Centre of Excellence for the Study of Innovative Functional Materials
CEMIF.CAL is a highly interdisciplinary Research Centre which was established with the goal of developing, within the University of Calabria, a research network which, through the synchronous coordination of research interests and expertise, optimizes and valorises existent scientific research competences and instruments already available within the various laboratories situated in the Departments of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences and Physics:
- "Synthesis and Characterization of Molecular Materials";
- "Synthesis and Study of the Reactivity of Functionalized Membranes";
- and the laboratory for the "Study of Optical, Electrooptical Properties and Surface Phenomena of Liquid Crystals".
The collaboration between such scientifically diverse laboratories has led to the establishment of expertise in the following transdisciplinary areas of research:
- The chemical synthesis and structural and functional characterization of innovative nanomaterials for photo/electric conversions and/or with biocorrelated properties;
- The synthesis of functionalized membranes, their characterization and subsequent incorporation into industrial applications;
- The study, design and development of optical and photonic displays;
- Electro-optical studies of liquid crystals;
- Modelling and the characterization and applications of non-solid, partially ordered soft matter.
